The infrastructure, which is managed and carried out by OHL, allows for the new access to the Rock of Gibraltar’s airport 

Gibraltar, EP, 18/12/2019.- Refractaris has been the winner for the passive fire protection works of the tunnel which will allow for the new access to the Gibraltar’s airport. The protective system is one of the most important in the set of the road which has a length of 1,24 kilometers and encircles the airport to avoid crossing the flight runway. The awardee is OHL for an amount of 35,7 millons euros.

The tunnel, which has a length of 350 meters, will be used for vehicle circulation and the passive fire protection installation will conclude between next months of April and May.

Refractaris is one of the Spanish companies specialized in the passive fire protection (High Temperature) developing great scale projects  in Spain and other countries such as South Africa, Chile, Morocco and Dubai.

In the specific case of passive fire protection in tunnels, Refractaris has made several works in the last years. Among other, the Churriana’s Tunnel in Málaga which a length of 6,2 kilometers or the passive fire protection and isolation of the solar plant Kaxu Solar One in South Africa.
